As the Team Lead for the Bolt delivery team, you will guide the development of AI-powered experiences for higher education institutions. You are responsible for the end-to-end delivery of customer-facing software, balancing hands-on technical work with people management and process ownership.
You will partner with Product leadership to translate strategy into executable engineering scope while maintaining strict quality standards. The role involves managing a small team of engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring that AI capabilities are reliable, safe, and effectively integrated into user workflows.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end delivery including velocity, predictability, and quality from planning to production.
- Manage team capacity and scope work to deliverable cycle boundaries with honest engineering analysis.
- Enforce engineering-QA contracts and ensure quality gates are met before any release.
- Coach and grow a team of three to eight engineers through regular feedback and career development.
- Stay hands-on with code reviews, technical challenges, and incident response as needed.
- Ensure AI behavior changes are evaluated for risk with proper regression coverage and monitoring.
- Partner with Product and Principal Engineers to clarify dependencies and technical standards.
What you'll need
- At least six years of professional software engineering experience in complex SaaS products.
- One or more years of experience leading engineers as a manager, tech lead, or team lead.
- Technical depth in PHP/Laravel, TypeScript (NestJS/Angular), MongoDB, and AWS.
- Hands-on experience delivering customer-facing AI or agentic capabilities in production.
- Working knowledge of AI concepts like retrieval, tool use, evaluation, and observability.
- Proven track record of owning delivery velocity and quality through to production.
- Strong communication skills for both detailed engineering discussions and leadership summaries.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Shape Up or similar cycle-based product development methodologies.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex.
