Check powers the businesses that run payroll, redefining how people get paid through embedded infrastructure. As a Tech Lead Manager, you will solve complex problems related to payroll calculations and money movement while leading a small, high-ownership engineering team.
You will act as a force multiplier, balancing individual contribution with management duties. Working closely with product and operations, you will define roadmaps and improve workflows to support business growth and simplify payroll for employers.
What you'll do
- Scale systems for payroll calculations, tax payments, and filings
- Design services for moving and reconciling money across parties
- Support new businesses migrating large employer bases to Check
- Use AI to automate operational workflows like tax notice triage
- Define roadmap and workflow improvements with product partners
What you'll need
- 5+ years building complex software and production systems
- 1-2 years of experience leading or managing a team
- Desire to remain hands-on and build alongside the team
- Track record of driving business outcomes and upleveling engineers
- Willingness to learn the current technology stack
