As Head of Data, you will transform data from a reporting function into a strategic product capability. You will oversee a team of nine across engineering, analytics, and science, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering. The role balances people leadership with hands-on technical guidance, requiring you to shape architecture and drive data quality while scaling the platform for business growth.
What you'll do
- Define and execute the company data vision, strategy, and roadmap
- Lead and develop teams across data engineering, analytics, and science
- Partner with staff engineers on architectural decisions and technical direction
- Design and operate cloud-based data infrastructure on AWS
- Establish standards for data quality, governance, and security
- Translate business objectives into scalable data solutions and insights
- Drive engineering best practices and mentor team members
What you'll need
- 7+ years in data engineering, software engineering, or related fields
- 3+ years managing technical teams including hiring and coaching
- Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database optimization
- Hands-on experience building production systems with Python
- Expertise with cloud data platforms like Snowflake or Redshift
- Experience designing scalable batch and real-time data pipelines
- Proficiency with GitHub and collaborative development workflows
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Nice to have
- Experience building data products that drive revenue or differentiation
- Deep knowledge of AWS tools such as S3, Glue, and SageMaker
- Experience with Kafka, dbt, Airflow, or Dagster
- Background in designing scalable distributed systems
