The Platform team at WorkOS builds the shared backend components and development systems that every product and team member relies on. You will design high-throughput infrastructure like event systems and webhooks while reimagining CI/CD pipelines to support agentic software development workflows.

Success in this role means enabling internal teams to build faster by providing clean abstractions and reliable paved paths. You will balance long-term architectural strategy with hands-on implementation, ensuring scalability, consistency, and operational simplicity across critical services.

What you'll do

  • Design and operate low-latency shared backend systems handling high concurrency and partial failures
  • Create clean platform interfaces and abstractions to help product teams adopt shared capabilities
  • Embed with product teams to understand workflow friction and shape platform investments
  • Evolve CI/CD, build, test, and deployment infrastructure to shorten feedback loops
  • Build isolated and verifiable execution environments for AI coding agents
  • Instrument the software development lifecycle to identify bottlenecks using metrics
  • Own platform reliability including observability, capacity planning, and incident response
  • Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions considering operational complexity and long-term ownership

What you'll need

  • 8+ years of software development experience owning high-impact technical projects
  • Experience building distributed systems or platform services at scale
  • Strong understanding of event-driven systems, queues, concurrency, and idempotency
  • Background in building or operating CI/CD, build systems, or developer tooling
  • Track record of designing frameworks with a clean developer experience
  • Strong operational instincts for observability, capacity planning, and reliability
  • Interest in AI coding agents, verifiable execution, and automated feedback loops
  • Ability to balance long-term architecture with hands-on implementation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting systems
