As a Staff DevOps Engineer on the Developer Experience team, you will set the technical direction for the tools and workflows used by all engineering teams. You will define multi-quarter platform strategies for build, test, deploy, and operate stages across AWS and GCP environments.

You will act as a force multiplier by abstracting infrastructure complexity and driving self-service platform adoption. The role requires embedding reliability, security, and observability into daily workflows while guiding the organization in adopting AI-assisted engineering tools safely.

What you'll do

  • Set and drive the technical roadmap for the Internal Developer Platform
  • Author and review RFCs and design docs for org-wide adoption
  • Serve as escalation point for high-severity production incidents
  • Mentor senior engineers to raise the technical bar for platform engineering
  • Own the architecture of CI/CD orchestration using GitLab CI/CD
  • Manage multi-cluster Kubernetes platforms including upgrades and networking
  • Define and evolve org-wide SLIs, SLOs, and incident response practices
  • Drive Infrastructure-as-Code strategy using Terraform and Crossplane

What you'll need

  • 10+ years of engineering experience with hands-on software development
  • 7+ years building and operating cloud infrastructure at scale
  • Track record of technical leadership across multiple teams
  • Deep experience with multi-account, multi-cluster Kubernetes (EKS/GKE)
  • Strong proficiency with Terraform, Crossplane, and GitOps practices
  • Experience designing CI/CD systems with strong security guardrails
  • Hands-on experience with Istio service mesh in multi-cluster environments
  • Experience building observability platforms with a cost-aware lens

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of container and supply-chain security practices
  • Experience with cloud cost governance and FinOps practices
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tooling like Cursor or Claude Code
  • Experience leading blameless postmortems and incident response
  • Support for data pipeline platforms such as Airflow or EMR
