As a Staff Software Engineer at Curri, you will shape the technical direction of scalable systems used by national retailers and industrial suppliers. You will balance writing production code with high-level architectural decisions, ensuring reliability as the company grows.
This position requires strong technical judgment to guide multiple teams, resolve complex issues, and mentor engineers. You will work in an AI-forward culture, utilizing tools like Claude Code and Cursor to enhance delivery standards across the organization.
What you'll do
- Architect scalable systems and ensure coherent technical strategy across projects
- Lead architecture reviews and provide technical judgment for multiple teams
- Debug complex issues and unblock engineers on critical path problems
- Write production code regularly using AI tooling fluently
- Mentor engineers from junior to senior levels to foster growth
- Identify systemic risks and drive cross-team efforts to reduce technical debt
- Translate business priorities into technical roadmaps with leadership and PMs
What you'll need
- 8+ years of experience building production software with architectural ownership
- Proven track record in designing scalable and reliable production infrastructure
- Full-stack depth in backend (TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, Redis, NATS) or UI (React)
- Fluency with AI-paired delivery tools like Claude Code or Cursor
- Demonstrated history of mentoring engineers and helping them advance
- Strong communication skills for explaining tradeoffs to diverse stakeholders
- Ability to influence technical direction through trust rather than authority
Nice to have
- Experience scaling systems through significant growth or major re-architecture
- Track record of identifying and fixing underlying systemic problems across teams
- Experience setting technical standards for AI-paired development practices
- Prior role as tech lead, staff engineer, or architect at a fast-moving startup
