Lead the Consumer Web Product team at NerdWallet, owning technical strategy and people outcomes for major web shopping verticals. You will guide a small group of engineers while remaining hands-on with architecture, AI-driven workflows, and performance optimization.
The team builds fast, data-driven experiences using modern full-stack technologies. Your work directly impacts search rankings, conversion rates, and revenue through close collaboration with marketing and product stakeholders.
What you'll do
- Own technical direction and people outcomes for the web product team
- Drive architecture, planning, and technical decision-making
- Build AI development harnesses and orchestrate agentic automations
- Mentor engineers on AI-era skills like prompting and spec-writing
- Manage direct reports through 1:1s, feedback, and growth plans
- Partner with leadership on performance, scalability, and security
- Ensure platform stability via monitoring and incident management
- Maintain code quality and drive modernization efforts
What you'll need
- 8+ years in software engineering with Technical Lead experience
- Expertise in TypeScript, React, and Node.js
- Strong background in Next.js and web performance metrics
- Experience architecting scalable backend APIs and microservices
- Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL database systems
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Understanding of security best practices in financial services
- Hands-on experience with AI development tools and workflows
Nice to have
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience integrating Machine Learning and personalization pipelines
- Domain knowledge in finance and shopping marketplaces
- Understanding of accessibility and usability best practices
- Familiarity with paid and organic search strategies
