As a Forward Deployed Engineer at LiveKit, you will partner with customer engineering teams to design, prototype, and deploy real-time communication and voice AI solutions. You will bridge the gap between product capabilities and customer needs by solving complex technical challenges and ensuring successful production launches.
You will work closely with internal Product and Engineering teams to translate field insights into platform improvements, while acting as a trusted technical advisor for developers using the LiveKit infrastructure.
What you'll do
- Design and implement real-time applications with customer engineering teams
- Create scalable architectures for voice AI and media use cases
- Build prototype integrations and reference implementations to accelerate development
- Guide customers through SDKs, APIs, and production deployment strategies
- Debug and troubleshoot complex technical issues in live environments
- Lead technical workshops and architecture sessions for developers
- Translate customer feedback into insights for product and platform teams
- Contribute code or examples to the open-source ecosystem when needed
What you'll need
- Seven or more years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience
- Proficiency in Go, Python, Node, Rust, or C++
- Experience with APIs, SDKs, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure
- Background in building or integrating developer platforms or real-time systems
- Ability to quickly understand complex systems and debug real-world issues
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with customers and internal teams
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with high ownership
Nice to have
- Experience with WebRTC, real-time media, or telephony/SIP infrastructure
- Familiarity with voice AI, conversational agents, or AI infrastructure
- Previous roles in Solutions Engineering or Forward Deployment
- History of contributing to open-source projects or developer ecosystems
- Prior experience building with or integrating LiveKit
