LiveKit provides the infrastructure for developers to build, test, and scale AI agents and real-time communication apps. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will partner directly with customer engineering teams to design systems, prototype solutions, and solve complex technical challenges during their move from experimentation to production.
You will act as a trusted advisor, helping clients navigate SDKs and deployment strategies while translating their needs into insights for LiveKit's product development. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, architecture, and customer implementation.
What you'll do
- Design and implement real-time applications with customer engineering teams
- Create scalable architectures for voice AI and media use cases
- Build prototype integrations and reference implementations to accelerate development
- Guide customers through SDKs, APIs, and production deployment strategies
- Debug and troubleshoot complex technical issues in live environments
- Lead technical workshops and architecture sessions with developers
- Translate customer feedback into insights for product and platform improvements
- Contribute code or examples to the open-source ecosystem when helpful
What you'll need
- Seven or more years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience
- Proficiency in Go, Python, Node, Rust, or C++
- Comfortable working with APIs, SDKs, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure
- Experience building or integrating developer platforms or real-time systems
- Ability to quickly understand complex systems and debug real-world issues
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with customer and internal teams
- Fluent in written and spoken Spanish and English
- Thrives in fast-paced environments with high ownership and initiative
Nice to have
- Experience with WebRTC, real-time media, or telephony/SIP infrastructure
- Familiarity with voice AI, conversational agents, or AI infrastructure
- Background in customer-facing roles like Solutions or Field Engineer
- History of contributing to open-source projects or developer ecosystems
- Previous experience building with or integrating LiveKit
