As a Principal Engineer, you will own the multi-year technical vision for messaging infrastructure that processes hundreds of millions of messages. You will partner with engineering and product leadership to ensure technical decisions support long-term competitive advantage. Success is measured by organizational growth through your influence, mentorship, and strategic leadership rather than individual output.
What you'll do
- Define multi-year technical vision for messaging infrastructure scale and reliability
- Drive architectural coherence across teams and resolve cross-system dependencies
- Lead technical due diligence for build-vs-buy decisions and platform migrations
- Solve complex company-level problems spanning organizational boundaries
- Mentor Staff and Senior Engineers to develop future technical leaders
- Shape company-wide standards for engineering excellence and observability
What you'll need
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with technical leadership scope
- Track record of leading cross-team initiatives with measurable business outcomes
- Ability to influence without authority and build consensus across boundaries
- Deep expertise in distributed systems handling hundreds of millions of transactions
- Experience with event streaming and messaging infrastructure at significant scale
- Strong background in scalable relational and NoSQL data stores
- Operational experience with cloud-native infrastructure on GCP or AWS
- Solid backend engineering foundation in Go, Python, Java, or C#
Nice to have
- Experience with messaging delivery systems or telecommunications infrastructure
- Expertise in data platform architecture including streaming pipelines and lakes
- Background in compliance-heavy environments like healthcare or fintech
- Experience shaping AI/ML infrastructure or integrating AI capabilities
- History of external technical leadership such as open source or speaking
