ClickHouse is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build ClickStack, an open-source platform that unifies logs, metrics, traces, and session replays. You will design scalable systems capable of handling petabytes of telemetry data to improve developer debugging experiences.
The team prioritizes reliable, high-throughput data pipelines and APIs. You will collaborate with the open-source community to incorporate feedback into the backend architecture while solving complex technical challenges in a distributed environment.
What you'll do
- Own and build key backend services and infrastructure for the observability platform
- Ensure reliable, high-throughput data pipelines and APIs for developers
- Collaborate with open-source contributors and customers to solve challenges
- Incorporate community feedback into backend architecture and API design
- Design scalable systems for ingesting and querying petabytes of data
What you'll need
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a backend focus
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
- Experience with Express, Fastify, or similar frameworks
- Solid understanding of API design, distributed systems, and data modeling
- Familiarity with containerized environments like Docker and Kubernetes
- Passion for open source and experience creating developer tooling
Nice to have
- Experience with Go for contributing to Go-based services
- Knowledge of ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, or other analytical databases
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, logging pipelines, or metrics infrastructure
- Experience with SDKs or client library design
- Exposure to message queues like Kafka or NATS
