Join Hauler Hero as a Senior Backend Engineer to design and evolve the core platform powering residential and commercial waste haulers. You will build robust, high-performance systems using Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot, working closely with cross-functional teams to modernize an essential industry.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain robust backend service layers using Java or Kotlin
- Build and scale APIs to handle real production workloads
- Optimize PostgreSQL schemas and tune SQL queries for performance
- Refactor existing services to improve reliability and maintainability
- Collaborate with Product and Frontend teams on feature development
- Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical discussions
- Use AI tools daily for coding, testing, and debugging tasks
What you'll need
- 5+ years of experience building production backend systems
- Strong proficiency with Spring Boot using Java and/or Kotlin
- Deep experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL
- Experience designing systems with distributed data and scale
- Ability to translate product requirements into technical solutions
- Clear written and verbal English communication skills
- Comfort working asynchronously across time zones
Nice to have
- Experience with Node.js or React
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures
- Background in geospatial or location-based systems
- Experience with payments or financial integrations
- Familiarity with logistics, fintech, or B2B SaaS
