Join the payments team at Hauler Hero, a SaaS platform for the waste management industry. You will design and operate services for card processing, refunds, and reconciliation, ensuring reliability for customers across North America.
This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role. You will use AI tools daily to assist with coding, testing, and debugging while maintaining strict ownership over correctness and system safety.
What you'll do
- Design and build services for card processing, refunds, and reconciliation
- Manage processor integrations via a common connector layer
- Implement idempotent charge paths and automated reconcilers
- Build audit trails for traceable payments and refunds
- Resolve payments incidents and drive root cause analysis
- Write clean, testable code in Kotlin using Spring Boot
- Optimize PostgreSQL schemas and tune SQL for performance
- Mentor engineers and participate in architectural discussions
What you'll need
- 5+ years building production backend systems
- 2+ years operating payment systems in production
- Direct experience integrating payment processor APIs
- Strong proficiency with Spring Boot and Kotlin
- Deep experience with PostgreSQL and relational databases
- Knowledge of idempotency and reconciliation patterns
- Understanding of PCI DSS scope and tokenization
- Experience with financial edge cases like chargebacks
Nice to have
- Ledger design or double-entry accounting concepts
- ACH or bank-payment integration experience
- Event-driven architectures like Pub/Sub or Kafka
- Google Cloud Platform experience (GKE, Cloud Run)
- Background in fintech, B2B SaaS, or logistics
- Frontend experience with React
