You will manage a growing group of senior and staff engineers responsible for the core backend systems and APIs. Your focus will be on ensuring scalability, reliability, and security while enabling product teams to deliver features quickly.
This position requires a leader who remains technically engaged, contributing to architectural decisions and solving complex system challenges. You will collaborate with product, data science, and infrastructure teams to maintain high operational standards.
What you'll do
- Lead and mentor a team of ten senior and staff backend engineers
- Drive planning and delivery with a focus on system reliability
- Own technical direction for backend services and API architecture
- Partner with product teams to translate requirements into robust designs
- Collaborate with data science to integrate decisioning models into workflows
- Improve observability and developer experience alongside infrastructure teams
- Support incident response and ensure adherence to SLA expectations
- Hire and develop engineering talent while maintaining high standards
What you'll need
- Three to seven years of engineering management experience
- Strong background as a senior or staff-level backend engineer
- Deep experience building API-driven systems with Go or Python
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalability principles
- Proven track record of shipping complex customer-facing platforms
- Comfortable leading technical discussions and reviewing implementation details
- Experience working in fast-paced startup or growth-stage environments
Nice to have
- Experience building internal APIs and shared services for product teams
- Familiarity with data-intensive systems or search technologies like OpenSearch
- Background in fintech or highly regulated industry environments
