Join the team building the infrastructure behind Slate’s collaborative video editor. You will develop systems for real-time preview rendering and final export encoding across web browsers, iOS devices, and native runtimes via WebAssembly.

The role sits at the intersection of systems programming, graphics rendering, and cross-platform development. You will handle FFmpeg integrations, Skia-based rendering engines, and iOS native modules.

What you'll do

  • Design encoding, decoding, and transcoding workflows for diverse video formats
  • Optimize FFmpeg builds for size and performance across platforms
  • Develop a Skia-based rendering engine using WebGPU, Metal, and WebGL
  • Compile C/C++ codebases to WebAssembly using Emscripten
  • Leverage WebCodecs API for hardware-accelerated processing with fallbacks
  • Build iOS integrations in Swift for seamless mobile video capabilities
  • Integrate TypeScript APIs into the Angular web application
  • Profile workloads to reduce latency and minimize memory footprint

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of professional programming experience
  • Strong proficiency in C or C++
  • Additional depth in TypeScript or Swift
  • Experience with FFmpeg, GStreamer, or libav for video processing
  • Knowledge of graphics rendering via Skia, OpenGL, or Metal
  • Understanding of codecs like H.264, H.265, VP9, and AV1
  • Experience building for WebAssembly using Emscripten or similar tools
  • Comfortable with asynchronous communication and clear documentation

Nice to have

  • Depth in both C++ systems and web platform knowledge
  • Experience with iOS native development and media frameworks
  • Background in real-time video processing or streaming
  • Experience optimizing for memory-constrained environments
