Lead the creation and growth of Kong's Managed Gateways SRE team, ensuring high availability and operational excellence for critical managed services. You will combine strategic leadership with hands-on technical contribution, architecting scalable systems and mentoring engineers while directly supporting enterprise customers across the Americas and Europe.
What you'll do
- Hire and build the Managed Gateways SRE team from the ground up
- Contribute directly to critical implementations and reliability work initially
- Mentor and grow a high-performing team of Site Reliability Engineers
- Architect fault-tolerant cloud-native systems using Kubernetes and Golang
- Own the operational lifecycle including monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Drive operational efficiency through automation and self-service tooling
- Define and track key SLOs and SLIs for service performance
- Collaborate with Product and engineering teams on roadmap decisions
What you'll need
- Proven experience leading SRE or DevOps teams in high-growth environments
- Deep expertise in highly available distributed systems on cloud platforms
- Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production
- Proficiency in Golang or similar languages for infrastructure automation
- Strong understanding of observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana
- Demonstrated ability to manage critical incidents and perform root cause analysis
Nice to have
- Familiarity with API gateway technologies or service mesh
- Experience with open-source contributions or SRE communities
- Certifications in cloud platforms or Kubernetes (e.g., CKA, CKAD)
- Background in developer tools or API management companies
