The EV Platform team manages the data layer for Mapbox's electric vehicle products, aggregating real-time and static charging station data from operators worldwide. You will build ingestion pipelines, quality assurance systems, and APIs that serve accurate data to automotive customers and internal teams like Search and Routing.
As a senior individual contributor, you will design scalable backend services, ensure system resilience, and collaborate with product owners to drive the platform's direction. The team values engineers who effectively integrate AI into their design and development workflows.
What you'll do
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines and backend services
- Integrate new charge point operators to expand global coverage
- Build systems to reconcile data from multiple providers into one dataset
- Create data validation tools to ensure accuracy of station attributes
- Develop internal dashboards to monitor data health and surface errors
- Support downstream teams consuming EV charging data in their products
- Participate in code reviews, design docs, and on-call rotation
What you'll need
- 3+ years of production backend development experience with Rust
- Experience building highly available services on AWS containers
- Proficiency with Docker, ECS, Fargate, or Kubernetes
- Knowledge of data engineering concepts and large-scale processing
- Understanding of distributed systems, fault tolerance, and consistency
- Strong English communication skills for global collaboration
- Experience with automated testing and performance profiling
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Argo and Datadog
- Experience integrating AI into engineering workflows
- Background in system architecture design
