Tern is reshaping the travel agency industry by providing modern infrastructure for small business advisors. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will join a product engineering team that ships working, tested features every week. You will own real product surfaces end-to-end, moving between backend data models and frontend UI as needed.
The company emphasizes high agency and independent execution. Engineers use AI tools like Claude Code daily to accelerate development and debugging. You will partner with product and design to turn ambiguous problems into shipped solutions, owning the code from build to production monitoring.
What you'll do
- Ship working, tested integration features every week in small pieces
- Own features across the stack from backend logic to frontend UI
- Contribute to abstractions and tooling that speed up future work
- Monitor production systems and own fixes end-to-end
- Improve team velocity through teaching code reviews and shared context
What you'll need
- Proven track record of owning full-stack features in production
- Fluency in Ruby on Rails or comparable MVC frameworks
- Ability to drive ambiguous problems to working outcomes independently
- Strong product sense and willingness to challenge specs for better UX
- Default mindset for edge cases, failure modes, and observability
- Daily use of AI tools to enhance speed and quality of work
Nice to have
- Experience with Hotwire, Turbo, or Stimulus
- Comfort with third-party API integrations
- Background in small, fast-moving product teams
