Astronomer seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join its Platform Engineering team, focusing on the infrastructure behind the Astro unified DataOps platform. You will design, build, test, and deploy production systems that enable global enterprises to orchestrate data pipelines using Apache Airflow. The role involves defining standards, improving reliability, and collaborating across the organization to support products like Astro, Observe, and the IDE.
What you'll do
- Design and build next-generation production platform infrastructure
- Own testing, building, and deployment processes in a high-scale PaaS
- Collaborate on system design, standards, and technology choices
- Participate in incident management and define operational practices
- Create and maintain comprehensive internal documentation
What you'll need
- Strong experience in Non-Abstract Systems design and implementation
- Proficiency in Python and Golang
- In-depth experience with Kubernetes (CKA or equivalent)
- Experience with observability principles, SLI/SLO definition and tracking
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for distributed teams
- Focus on reliability, operational excellence, and reducing toil
- Ability to estimate work scope and coordinate with stakeholders
- Knowledge of CI/CD, version control, automation, and debugging
Nice to have
- Experience with SaaS/PaaS products across multiple cloud providers
- Familiarity with CircleCI, Chronosphere, Splunk, Bazel, Istio, or Karpenter
- Deep knowledge of AWS, GCP, and especially Azure
- Previous participation in an on-call rotation
- Experience with Apache Airflow
