What you'll do
- Solve backend problems spanning multiple services or domains
- Define system boundaries and architectural direction
- Clarify constraints, risks, and trade-offs in technical decisions
- Enhance performance, resilience, and data integrity in production
- Address recurring structural issues instead of temporary fixes
- Stay hands-on for implementation, diagnosis, or prototyping
- Mentor senior engineers and improve code review quality
- Collaborate with leaders on technical investment and risk
What you'll need
- Demonstrated technical impact across multiple teams
- Experience owning distributed backend systems at scale
- Strong judgment on service boundaries and async communication
- Deep knowledge of relational databases and concurrency
- Track record of improving reliability and scalability
- Influence technical direction through evidence and execution
- Communicate clearly to support complex technical decisions
- Know when to standardize, simplify, or maintain status quo
