Join the platform team at Knock, a remote-first Series A startup building an API for product notifications. You will own foundational infrastructure, ensuring high reliability and availability while supporting product engineers with efficient deployment workflows.
The team values autonomy and accountability, focusing on modernizing EKS clusters, optimizing database performance, and maintaining strict uptime standards. You will work in a distributed environment that encourages documentation and collaborative problem-solving.
What you'll do
- Manage and modernize Terraform-backed EKS clusters for scale and security
- Troubleshoot Postgres performance and plan for significant scaling growth
- Improve telemetry and traces using Datadog, AWS Cloudwatch, and Honeycomb
- Maintain service uptime above 99.95% through proactive monitoring
- Enhance developer experience with canaries and blue/green deployments
- Participate in on-call rotations alongside the engineering team
- Create runbooks and internal documentation to share knowledge
What you'll need
- 4+ years as a DevOps engineer in startup or mid-sized companies
- Experience with production Kubernetes clusters and Infrastructure as Code
- Proficiency with Terraform, Pulumi, or Cloudformation
- Strong background in complex AWS deployments and VPC structures
- Experience operating Aurora Postgres, Mongo, or ClickHouse
- Familiarity with scaling queues like SQS, Kinesis, or Kafka
- Excellent communication skills for distributed team collaboration
- Comfort using AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code
